The Browning Version   1994     2 and a half stars    R, 98 min.
Genre: Drama
Director: Mike Figgis
Cast: Albert Finney, Greta Scacchi, Matthew Modine, Julian Sands, Michael Gambon, Ben Silverstone, Maryam d'Abo, Jim Sturgess, Joseph Beattie, Mark Bolton, Tom Havelock, Walter Micklethwait

In this second film version of Terence Rattigan's 1948 play, Albert Albert Finney plays the old schoolmaster who is being retired to make way for more up-to-date courses rather than the Greek and Latin taught by the old, unloved master. Meanwhile, his wife (Greta Scacchi) is having an affair, which adds to his despair. This is a change of pace for director Mike Figgis, and he does a respectable job in painting a picture of changing from the old ways to the new.
