Suffering from trauma following his father's death in a car accident, 17-year-old Kale (Shia LaBeouf) slugs his teacher, which results in a court-ordered, three-month sentence of house arrest. Kale discovers that things in the neighborhood are not as they appear, and one who stands out from the rest is Mr. Turner (David Morse) who has made friends with Kale's mother, Julie (Carrie-Anne Moss). Mr. Turner's classic Ford Mustang just happens to match the description of a car involved in a murder case, and Kale soon begins to suspect that Turner is a serial killer. Kale, Julie, and Ronnie rig cameras hoping to catch evidence on Turner as they stake out his house.
