Dr. Robert Campbell (Sean Connery) heads for the Amazon rain forest in search of a cure for cancer. When he arrives there, he is accepted by the natives as a medicine man, and he and his assistant Dr. Crane (Lorraine Bracco) close in on a cancer cure. When loggers approach the village and the tribe is told to relocate, Campbell tries to stop the loggers. Violence ensues, and a forest fire destroys his lab. But, Campbell will not quit, and he, Crane, and the tribe move farther into the jungle where Campbell plans to rebuild his lab and find that cure for cancer.
