Crime boss Fingers (Andy Garcia) is at the center as the one in a position to control destinies of four people. Happiness (Forest Whitaker) is a business executive who is told a race is rigged and bets everything. Sorrow (Sara Michelle Gellar) is pop singer Trista who faces losing her career when she cuts off all ties to her manager. Love (Kevin Bacon) is a doctor who must treat Gina (Julie Delpy) who had turned him down romantically. Last but not least, Pleasure (Brendan Fraser) is a criminal who deals with his premonitions and his failure to change the future.

What Larry knows is that those exhibits come to life at night, and when he gets an S.O.S. call from cowboy Jed (Owen Wilson), Larry races to the Smithsonian. Once there, Larry learns that Egyptian pharaoh Kahmunrah (Hank Azaria) has come back to life and is seeking to dominate the world. And the battles rage as Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams), General Custer (Bill Hader), and Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams) fight the evil forces of Ivan the Terrible (Christopher Guest) and Napoleon (Alain Chabat). This story of courage and survival relates events during the rescue mission following the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center. Port Authority Police Department officers responded to the emergency and went into the building to rescue survivors. While they were inside, the tower collapsed, leaving only Will Jimeno (Michael Pena) and John McLoughlin (Nicolas Cage) alive in the rubble. For 12 hours, while awaiting their own rescue, Will and John talk about their lives and dreams while their wives (Maggie Gyllenhaal and Maria Bello) and families wait for news.
