Billionaire, four-times-divorced Edward Perryman Cole (Jack Nicholson) has terminal cancer and is sharing a hospital room with happily married mechanic Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman) who is also suffering from terminal cancer. They form a friendship, and Edward convinces Carter to join him on a trip to fulfill the bucket list of adventures they want to accomplish before dying. And off they go on a joy ride that includes skydiving, racing cars, and visits to the far corners of the world.
