Mike Wayne (Kirk Douglas) is a has-been movie producer whose biggest desire is to please his daughter, January (Deborah Raffin). To keep January living her high lifestyle, Mike marries wealthy Deidre Granger (Alexis Smith) despite the fact that she will not give up her lesbian lover, Karla (Melina Mercouri). Meanwhile, although January is being romanced by playboy David Milford (George Hamilton), she is very attracted to middle-aged alcoholic Tom Colt (David Janssen) who, like her father, has seen better days. Brenda Vaccaro received a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for her role of Linda Riggs, the editor of a fashion magazine.
