The catch is that if the husband is killed by a moving vehicle, the policy will pay double. But, they have not counted on tenacious insurance investigator Barton Keyes (Edward G. Robinson) who is assigned to the case. Great performances by all. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards–including Best Picture, Actress (Stanwyck), and Director.

Olga's actions lead to tragedy when Fedor kills her–letting Anton take the blame until ten years later when his guilt forces him to confess.
