After being away for 10 years, business executive Frank Maclin (Robert Hays) returns to his hometown of Dubuque, Iowa, to modernize the Pickett Brewery for Charlie Pickett (Art Carney). Maclin organizes the brewery's blue-collar workers who include his old buddies Harry Meade and Ray Binkowski (David Keith and Tim Thomerson). He also finds his ex-girlfriend "J.M." (Barbara Hershey), and their relationship picks up where it once left off. When Frank learns that Pickett is going to resell the brewery, he must consider his position with the company vs. the interests of his worker friends and, in the process, make some very serious choices.
