Sammy (Matthew Modine) was left on a bus headed for Georgia by his mother when Sammy was 10. Since she had told him not to say a word if they were separated, he never spoke. He was taken in and grew up as a handyman, but, true to his mother's admonition, he stayed silent. People in town assumed that he could not hear nor speak, so would confide in him when they needed to talk. Then along comes Archibald (James Earl Jones), the junkman, who learns the truth. Not bad. Made for TV.
