The local assayers (Lloyd Whitlock and Yakima Canutt) are crooks and shoot Jake when he will not tell them where the mine is. Jerry is charged with the murder, but Jerry has already rescued Jake who was left for dead and makes plans to trap the assayers during his trial.

Later, John meets Dan's sister Beth (Lucile Browne) who, not knowing of the role he may have played in her brother's death, hires John as her ranch foreman. Stagecoach robber Joe Dickson (LeRoy Mason) tells Beth about John's past, and, later, John learns that Joe is the one responsible for Dan's death. John calls together a tribe of Indians to track down Joe, and, no longer feeling guilty, John is now free to fall in love with Beth.
