Monte Walsh (Lee Marvin) and Chet Rollins (Jack Palance) are friends who have trouble adapting to the contemporary world during the last days of the Old West. Their friends are losing their jobs and turning to cattle rustling. Chet marries, but an ailing Martine (Jeanne Moreau) turns down Monte's offer of marriage. A short time later, Martine's death leaves Monte distraught, and tragedy ensues.    1 User Review

Monte Walsh is to Lee Marvin what Tom Horn is to Steve Mcqueen This is a western. But only in the sense that it takes place in the west,on horseback during the era ( or rather the end of the era ) of the true cowboy. It is a poignant story of a man, who is nearer to the end of his life than the begining , and finds himself in an ever changing world into which he no longer fits. Circumstances involving his best friend, and his lover make for a surprisingly touching and introspective story. A story in which one cannot help but care about the characters. I highly recommend watching it.
