John Hoyt - Movies

The Big Combo   1955     2 and a half stars    N/R, 86 min.
Genre: Drama
Director: Joseph H. Lewis
Cast: Cornel Wilde, Richard Conte, Brian Donlevy, Jean Wallace, Robert Middleton, Lee Van Cleef, Earl Holliman, Helen Walker, Jay Adler, John Hoyt

This film was considered to be extremely vicious at the time of its initial release and is a good example of film noir. Police Lieutenant Diamond (Cornel Wilde) sets out to get the crime boss (Richard Conte), but he is told to drop the case because of associated extra costs and time. Diamond makes one last attempt to bring the boss to justice by soliciting the help of the boss's girlfriend (Jean Wallace) whom Diamond also loves. Matters heat up, and, as in life, the distinction between good and bad is not always clear.

Cast: John Wayne, Susan Hayward, Pedro Armendariz, Agnes Moorehead, John Hoyt, William Conrad, Lee Van Cleef, Thomas Gomez, Billy Curtis

This unintentional comedy stars John Wayne as Gengis Khan and Susan Hayward as Bortai his concubine. It is supposed to be a tension-filled action story of Mongols versus the Tartars, but it ends up being little more than silly dialogue.    2 User Reviews

This is the film famous for the fact that all of the stars of the film would die of cancer, believed to have been caused (at least in part) by nearby nuclear bomb testing by the government. This is a film that should never have been made and certainly not "on location."

This is the final in the series of DVDs that presents all of the Original Star Trek episodes. This DVD contains the last episode and the pilot for the series. "Turnabout Intruder" (aired 6/3/1969, stardate 5928.5)-This final episode begins with the Enterprise receiving a distress call from Canus II. The landing party finds only an ill Janice Lester and Dr. Coleman, who claims the remainder of the group on the planet have died as a result of radiation. But Janice, an ex-associate of Kirk, is jealous of his success and is not really ill. She does the old body-swapping trick on Kirk and now, in Kirk's body, is out to wreak havoc unless someone can stop her. "The Cage"-This pilot for the series was shown in 1965 but didn't cut the mustard, so it was re-worked with a new cast (except Leonard Nimoy as Spock). The Enterprise answers a distress signal, and Captain Pike (Jeffrey Hunter) heads a landing party to investigate. But the distress call was a ruse and the highly intelligent inhabitants have plans for Pike.

Parts of this pilot were used in the two-part episode "The Menagerie," which brought back Enterprise's first captain, Christopher Pike (Jeffrey Hunter), and again was set in Talos IV. This episode was released in 1986. Pike leads a landing party to Talos IV to investigate a distress signal and is captured by the highly intelligent inhabitants who are able to manipulate the mind through illusions. Now Spock and the rest of Enterprise's crew must figure out how to save the day.    1 User Review

A must see classic Star Trek adventure.
More a journey of the mind then a visual cascade of today's sci fi stories.
It really does stand alone quite well as a work of provocative entertainment.
Star Trek: The Cage and the resulting 3 season of the original series are STAR TREK, PERIOD.

No to be confused with any of the bland spin off series that where to follow later.
