Joseph Wambaugh's screenplay provides good entertainment as he, once again, presents a police story. This time around, two cops, Valmikov (Robert Foxworth) and Natalie Zimmermann (Paula Prentiss), fall for each other while pursuing a dognapper.

The Bonfire of the Vanities 1990 R, 125 min. Genre: Drama
Director: Brian De Palma Cast: Tom Hanks, Bruce Willis, Melanie Griffith, Kim Cattrall, Saul Rubinek, Morgan Freeman, John Hancock, Kevin Dunn, Clifton James, F. Murray Abraham
Brian De Palma directed this comedy/drama based on Tom Wolfe's novel. It stars Tom Hanks as a millionaire whose mistress kills a young black man with his car. Comfortable in the sedate world of Wall Street, he finds himself unable to cope with the life of a suspected criminal. Melanie Griffith is good as his self-involved mistress. This is a pretty good depiction of the problems evolving from racism, but overall it doesn't do justice to Wolfe's novel.

It's been a hassle, all those years with vampires vs. humans. When the blood plant does not produce enough blood, its designer David Harrison (Jim Metzler) and his wife Sarah (Morgan Brittany) arrive in the ghost town and find themselves in the middle of trouble. There are those fundamentalists, led by Jefferson (John Ireland), who want the real thing and are ready to rise up against the peaceful vampire leader, Count Mardulak (David Carradine), who ordered the blood plant as a method of integrating the vampires into the human world. War it shall be.

| | Kinda stupid but picks up when... | Bulwer 02/01/2007 | | This story has all kinds of holes in the plot, it's inane but typical for the time period. It only gets going when Jenilee removes her jacket towards the end and is wearing nothing but a thin tank (no pun intended) top! GOOD GAWD!! Thank goodness for Slow Mo!! |
