  A voodoo curse has caused Sir Edward Markham's (Alistar Williamson) face to be terribly disfigured, and his brother Julian (Vincent Price) keeps Edward locked in the attic. As his means of escape, Edward gets help from witch doctor N'Galo (Harry Baird) who gives him medicine to make him appear dead. But, N'Galo has double-crossed him, and Edward is put in a coffin and buried. Grave robbers retrieve him, and his "body" is taken to anatomist Dr. Neuhardt (Christopher Lee) who revives him, and now Edward goes on a killing spree seeking revenge for his betrayal.

  Toralv Maurstad plays the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg who is living in poverty when he marries his cousin Nina (Florence Henderson). Later, Grieg has an affair with wealthy Theresa Berg (Christina Schollin) who convinces her father to arrange a concert for Grieg. As he finds success as a composer in Rome, Grieg realizes that he misses long-suffering Nina and Norway, and he returns to his homeland.

  Homosexuality was illegal in England in the 1960s, and this film is one of the first to influence the "opening up" of the discussion on the subject. Melville Farr (Dirk Bogarde) is a married lawyer who had demonstrated homosexual tendencies in the past and had a male lover. Being illegal, such people were often blackmailed, and Melville gets involved with the issue when he takes on the blackmailing in court.
