  According to French legend, in the year 1765 trouble brewed in the form of a beast that killed humans in the mountains of France. Two brave men–one, enlightened Parisian Fronsac (Samuel Le Bihan), and the other, wise native American Iroquois Mani (Mark Dacascos)–are sent by King Louis XV to investigate the uncivilized, backward Gevaudan province, which is far removed from Paris society.
