The self-assured Lily Jane quickly fits in, though many schoolmates are shocked when she befriends African-American Rosalba (Brazhal Brewer). She also catches the eye of Billy Bob (Joe Pichler) and his mischievous friend, Preacher (Jesse Plemons). As Billy Bob tries to impress Lily Jane, he also must deal with his widowed mother's romance with a local mechanic. Based on a short story by Truman Capote.
