A New York City doctor, Judah Rosenthal (Martin Landau), tries to end an affair, but his mistress Dolores Paley (Anjelica Huston) has other ideas. When Dolores threatens to expose his infidelity to his wife (Claire Bloom), Judah confides in his brother Jack (Jerry Orbach) who has ties to organized crime. Jack suggests that Judah have Dolores murdered. Meanwhile, documentary filmmaker Clifford Stern (Woody Allen) is commissioned to make a film about his brother-in-law Lester (Alan Alda) who is a successful TV producer, and both Clifford and Lester fall for TV producer Halley Reed (Mia Farrow). All of the characters represent different sides of human frailities that result in everything from murder to comedy. Another of Woody's hits for which he received Oscar nominations for Director and Writing. Landau was nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
