Once they reach Africa, they are met by "great white hunter" Monroe Kelly (Ernie Hudson). While on their journey, they encounter a danger they had not planned on in the form of bloodthirsty gorillas. Special effects are a good addition to the story.

It is an old-fashioned story of good triumphing over evil. The climax of Roy's home-run hit is a classic. The film received four Oscar nominations, including Glenn Close for Best Supporting Actress.
