"Bull" McCabe's (Richard Harris) family has farmed a plot in a small Irish community for generations. When the owner decides to auction it off, Bull decides to buy it, and no one in the area would have it otherwise. However, a rich American, Peter (Tom Berenger), arrives in town to buy it for development. When Bull and his son (Sean Bean) decide to talk Peter out of competing for the land, the results are tragic. Harris received an Academy Award nomination.
