United States Treasury Agent Frank Warren (Glenn Ford) investigates tax evasion on the part of a racketeer "Big Fellow" who has controlled his section of Chicago and has had hundreds of people killed. "Big Fellow" owes $3 million in back taxes, and Warren and his agents, George Pappas (James Whitmore) and Stanley Weinburg (David Wolfe) trace signatures to get evidence. Finally, with help from "Big Fellow's" lawyer O'Rourke (Barry Kelley), they find what they need to bring an end to "Big Fellow's " crime world. This film marked Whitmore's screen debut.
