Leonora Eames (Barbara Bel Geddes) is a model who marries millionaire Smith Ohlrig (Robert Ryan) and moves into his luxurious home where boredom and loneliness set in. They fight, separate, get back together, and then separate again. Leonora gets a job as a receptionist for sympathetic psychiatrist Dr. Quinada (James Mason), she does not tell Quinada that she is married, and they fall in love. Complications–including pregnancy–ensue as Leonora tries to come to terms with the difficulties in her life.

Big Frank's reason for sending them to Florida is so that Rusty will watch over his daughter Valerie (Shelley Fabares) who is vacationing there. Rusty and Valerie fall in love, but Valerie drops him when she learns of her father's involvement. Then, Valerie gets involved with an Italian playboy (Fabrizio Mioni), goes on a drunken spree, and ends up in jail. But, by story's end, Rusty and Valerie are happily reunited. Songs include "Girl Happy," "Cross My Heart and Hope to Die," "Spring Fever, and "Startin' Tonight."

College professor Jonathan Jones (Tom Poston) discovers "zotz," which is a magic coin that gives him power over those around him. Jones offers "zotz" to the Pentagon only to learn that the Army brass believes he is crazy. When foreign agents learn about "zotz," they set out to kidnap Jones, but, during the attempt, Jones drops his magic coin, and it is lost forever in the sewer.
