Fifteen-year-old Sara (Jennifer Connelly) resents her baby brother Toby (Toby Froud) and wishes that he would disappear. Toby's trail takes her to the winding labyrinth, which leads to the castle where Toby is being held. The labyrinth is filled with puzzles and strange creatures (Jim Henson's puppets) that confuse Sarah who must rescue Toby by midnight or he will be turned into a goblin.

Mishaps ensue before Kermit signs up with producer Martin Price (Dabney Coleman), and the gang gets back together–after rescuing Kermit from amnesia.
