Oliver Stone received Oscar nominations for Best Picture and Director in presenting questions about the Warren Commission and its investigation of the murder of John F. Kennedy. The questions arise when New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison (Kevin Costner) has doubts about the FBI's official story concerning the murder and begins his own investigation. The movie achieved its aim of making citizens more politically aware. Two Academy Awards (Best Cinematography and Film Editing) and four other nominations were received.
