High school student Molly Hartley (Haley Bennett) relocates to a new school where fellow classmate Joseph (Chace Crawford) shows her the ropes while outcast Alexis (Shanna Collins) tries to convert her to Christianity. Meanwhile, Molly is haunted by memories of her mentally ill mother (Marin Hinkle) who had tried to stab her. At her father's (Jake Weber) urging, Molly seeks help from her school counselor (Nina Siemaszko) who tells her that there could be a genetic connection between her mother's mental illness and Molly's state of mind. Is something sinister lying in wait for Molly and her friends as Molly prepares to celebrate her 18th birthday?
