When circus owner Jeff Wilson (Kenny Baker) is robbed by his partner Carter (James Burke), underhanded lawyer J. They encounter a myriad of zany characters and events–Eve Arden plays the Human Fly "Peerless Pauline," and wealthy Mrs. Dukesbury (Margaret Dumont) is shot from a cannon. One highlight of the film is Groucho's rendition of "Lydia the Tattooed Lady."

Although detective Mortimer Lutz (Bill Osco) attempts to investigate, the town's mayor, Gordon Lane (Jose Ferrer), tries to stop him because he is trying to protect the economic interests of the town's potato crop. The film sat around on the shelves for about three years before being let out to terrorize the public.
