Four-year-old Amy (Alana De Roma) witnessed her father's accidental death by electrocution and has appeared to be deaf and mute ever since. Her mother (Rachel Griffiths) has refused child-welfare workers' advice of sending Amy to a special school and is hiding out with Amy in Melbourne where one of the neighbors (Ben Mendelsohn) realizes that Amy is NOT deaf and can communicate through music.
