During the 1970s, Dickie Roberts was a precocious child star of a TV show. But, Dickie (David Spade) is now 35 years old and has left stardom behind. When Dickie hears about a new movie to be directed by Rob Reiner, he hopes for the role of a "normal" guy but is turned down because he wasn't raised in a "normal" environment. Dickie's solution: hire a "normal" family through which he can learn about the things he never experienced growing up.
