This story is told in flashbacks as a juror, Stonewall Jackson Fentry (Robert Duvall), is holding back his guilty verdict in the murder case of a young man. They marry, but Sarah dies shortly after they exchange vows, and Fentry raises her son–until a blood relative interferes.
