  Dr. Ravic (Charles Boyer) is a German surgeon who has fled to Paris to escape the Nazis. Ravik falls in love with Joan Amadou (Ingrid Bergman) who is grieving over the sudden death of her lover. They become involved in a doomed love affair that hits a critical point on the day that war is declared between France and Germany.

Then, Loder is killed, and Jesper travels to Italy where he links up with resistance fighters Pinkie and Gina (Robert Alda and Lilli Palmer). He does meet with Polda and learns about the Nazi plans to build an atomic bomb. Meanwhile, he falls in love with Gina, but now must find a way to escape from the Nazis.

  This remake of the 1925 movie is the first talkie version of this story. Claude Rains does a good job as the masked Phantom who comes up from the sewers under the Paris Opera House to coach singer Christine (Susanna Foster). He terrorizes the singers and even drugs and strangles the lead singer (Jane Farrar) to ensure that Christine will be given the lead. When Christine fails to appear on the stage, the Phantom causes a giant chandelier to crash on the audience. Now, the Phantom kidnaps Christine who does manage to remove his mask. More terror ensues during the dark chase beneath the opera house to rescue Christine.

Honey introduces the professors to popular music, and a good time is had by all–until Tony spoils the party.   Convicts escape from a penal colony off the coast of South America. Another in the group is a mystic, Cambreau (Ian Hunter), and, one-by-one, the escapees come under his spell as they die. Few survive the trip, but at the end, Verne believes that Cambreau is God, and he repents. Now, Verne returns to serve out the rest of his sentence, and Julie agrees to be there for him when he is released.
