  An earthquake releases mutant cockroaches that have the unique ability to start fires and thus wreak havoc on a nearby town. Professor James Parmiter (Bradford Dillman) takes an interest in the creatures after his wife is killed by them, begins to cross-breed them, and finds that they have intelligence. Sounds like a problem is developing.

  This tale begins years ago when Santa Claus was chosen to be the hero to children and deliver presents on Christmas Eve. The elves greet them, and Claus takes over the job of Santa Claus. But, one elf, Patch (Dudley Moore), later leaves for New York where he works for evil toy maker B.Z. (John Lithgow) who wants to destroy Santa Claus and take over the distribution of gifts. Will Patch save Santa Claus and the Christmas spirit?
