The three become inseparable friends. Jules marries Catherine, and they have a baby (Sabine Haudepin)–but Catherine still loves both Jules and Jim. The war ends, and Jim moves in with Catherine and Jules, and, with Jules approval, Jim becomes Catherine's lover. Now, just when they think they have what they want, problems ensue and lead to tragedy.
