This TV remake of the 1947 classic follows the former movie closely, with Sebastian Cabot in the role of Kris Kringle who is hired to play Santa Claus during the Christmas season at Macy's. Kris becomes friends with Macy's manager Karen Walker (Jane Alexander), her young daughter Susan (Susan Davidson), and their neighbor Bill (David Hartman). Kris claims that he is the real Santa Claus and tries to convince Susan that her mother is wrong and that Santa Claus really does exist.
