Problems develop because Ella will not reveal her true identity, but Moss and other clients appear together at Ella's doorstep, and all ends happily. The songs include "Just in Time" and "The Party's Over." The film received an Oscar nomination for Best Scoring of a Musical Picture.

An Oscar was also received for the Visual Effects (Special Achievement Award), and seven other nominations were received, including Best Supporting Actress (Shelley Winters).
