"Colonel Blimp" is adapted from a comic strip about upper-crust members of the military created by cartoonist David Low.

British explorer Capt. Robert Falcon Scott (John Mills) sets out on an expedition in 1910 to the South Pole. A search party finds their remains–along with Scott's diary providing clues to their unsuccessful attempt to make it back to civilization. The fine score composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams later was transmuted to his "Sinfonia Antarctica."
