During the 16th century, swashbuckling British naval officer Brian Hawke (Errol Flynn) goes undercover and manages to enter a pirate fortress on Madagascar. His mission is to learn more about Capt. Roc Brasiliano (Anthony Quinn) whose pirate band is attacking ships. Problems ensue, and Brasiliano demands that Hawke be executed, but pirate Spitfire Stevens (Maureen O'Hara) defends Hawke. During a raid on an Indian ship, Princess Patma (Alice Kelley) is kidnapped, but Hawke gets the information he needs on the pirate activities, rescues Princess Patma, and escapes the pirates. This film was remade in 1967 as "The King's Pirate" with Doug McClure in Flynn's role.

Maynard allows himself to be captured by Blackbeard who also captures Morgan's adopted daughter Edwina (Linda Darnell) and her lady in waiting, Alvina (Irene Ryan). When the fact that Morgan and Blackbeard are working together is uncovered, sword fights ensue in this adventure about piracy on the high seas.

Tim has a cocky attitude and does not appreciate the war effort. While in London, he meets ex-girlfriend Carol (Betty Grable), and she isn't pleased with his cavalier attitude about the war. To show his dedication, he joins the R.A.F. Great combat footage, which earned an Oscar nomination for Special Effects. One of Power's better efforts.
