  New Yorker Ben Kalmen (Michael Douglas) is going through a mid-life crisis with heart problems, and he has lost his auto dealership. He is divorced from Nancy (Susan Sarandon) and has decided that the way to find meaning in life is through a steady stream of lovers. Ben takes his new girlfriend Jordan's (Mary-Louise Parker) daughter Allyson (Imogen Poots) on a college tour. After seducing Allyson, Ben seeks help in solving his problems from his old friend Jimmy Merino (Danny DeVito).
