The plane takes off, but they only get as far as an African wildlife preserve where Alex reunites with his mom (voice of Sherri Shepherd) and dad (voice of Bernie Mac) who Alex has not seen since he was stolen from them when he was just a cub. Alex must now deal with his dad's rival Makunga (voice of Alec Baldwin), and the zoo animals use their diversity to overcome all obstacles as they come in contact with their wild counterparts in this story showing the value of distinctiveness being a virtue.

Murphy is great as he takes on roles of four family members–including fat Sherman and svelte alter ego Buddy. The film provides good satire in the Eddie Murphy manner.

Instead of sympathizing with Mary, they tell her to dump her cheating husband. Mary also asks for advice from housekeeper Maggie (Cloris Leachman), nanny Uta (Tilly Scott Pedersen), Hollywood agent Leah (Bette Midler), and even her own mother (Candice Bergen) who offer their own perspectives on how to handle the situation.
