French police detective Paul Bellamy (Gerard Depardieu) and his wife, Francoise (Marie Bunel), are vacationing in Nimes. They are staying at a hotel where Bellamy encounters guest Noel Gentil (Jacques Gamblin) and learns that he and his wife had planned a murder as part of an insurance scam. Their plans went awry when she discovered that he was having an affair, and he, alone, is responsible for the death. Bellamy has had enough of sight-seeing, and this provides him with the excuse to investigate the murder.
