This film is based on Robert Penn Warren's Pulitzer Prize winning novel, which was a thinly veiled depiction of Louisiana Governor Huey Long's rise and fall in politics. This "governor of the people" is Willie Stark (Sean Penn) who begins his career as an idealist but uses corruption to obtain his goals. Stark's methods lead to his eventual downfall.

Little League baseball coach Morris Buttermaker (Walter Matthau) is determined to train a bunch of unruly kids into a winning unit. This movie is very funny as the ludicrous, beer-guzzling Buttermaker employs a special tactic–Amanda (Tatum O'Neal)–as the catalyst to make winners out of his foul-mouthed players. Followed by two sequels and remade in 2005.

This sequel to "The Bad News Bears" just does not have the gusto of the original film. Kelly Leak (Jackie Earle Haley) is back on the team, and his father, Mike (William Devane), is coerced into becoming the coach.

Suburban parents–stay-at-home dad Brad Adamson (Patrick Wilson) and frustrated mom Sarah Pierce (Kate Winslet)–meet while taking their children to community playgrounds. Their sexual attraction to each other is obvious, and, after awhile, a torrid affair ensues. Meanwhile, Brad's friend Larry Hedges (Noah Emmerich) spends much of his time driving by the house of recently released sex offender Ronald James McGorvey (Jackie Earle Haley) who has returned to the neighborhood to live with his mother (Phyllis Somerville). The lives and adventures of other parents in the neighborhood cross as well while supervising their children at playgrounds and pools in the small town. Three Academy Award nominations were received, including Best Actress (Kate Winslet) and Supporting Actress (Jackie Earle Haley).

This story is set in 1976, when the American Basketball Association is about to merge with the National Basketball Association. Jackie Moon (Will Farrell) uses the profits from his soul ballad "Love Me Sexy" to purchase the Flint Michigan Tropics–the worst team in basketball. Jackie is already a player and coach on the team, but, now, as the owner as well, his goal is to qualify as one of the teams that will merge into the NBA. To that end, Jackie obtains former Boston Celtics point-guard, mean-tempered Monix (Woody Harrelson) to lead the team on a winning streak–and the craziness begins.

The year is 1985 in an alternate universe, and the tensions between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. have reached an all-time high. The Watchmen, who are costumed adventurers, must come to the rescue. Their groups are divided into Generation 1 from the 1940s and Generation 2, which followed. One member of Gen 2, Laurie/Silk Spectre (Malin Ackerman), spans both Generations because she is the child of a Gen 1 member (Carla Gugino). Gen 1 Watchmen have moved on; Ozymandias (Matthew Goode) has become a head of industry, and Dr. Manhattan (Billy Crudup) is now a physicist. When The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is killed, his former colleague Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) joins forces with his group of retired Gen 2 Watchmen to uncover a plot to rid the world of superheroes. The nuclear clock is ticking, and Rorschach sees a conspiracy that reaches both Generations, and the battle is on to save humanity.
