Rolfe sails to the Moorish coast with his brother Orm (Russ Tamblyn), but he is not alone in the quest. The Prince of the Moors, Aly Mansuh (Sidney Poitier), is also racing to find the golden bell, and confrontations ensue.

Paul wants to become an artist in London, and he depends on financial gifts from women in the town. But, after one of his brothers dies, Paul knows that he must remain with his mother, and he does–until she dies, and then he heads for London. The film won an Oscar for Best Cinematography and was nominated for six others including Best Picture, Actor (Howard), Supporting Actress (Mary Ure), and Director.
