Gideon's brother, Anthony (John Glover), steals the land from Gideon, and, after trying to lynch Gideon, Anthony leaves him for dead. Gideon recovers and finds safety with his daughter, Miranda (Rachel Crouch), on a bayou island. Years pass, the Civil War is in progress, and Anthony is a Confederate spy. While Anthony is paddling a canoe nearby, Gideon uses his sorcery skills to cause a storm that capsizes the canoe. Anthony makes it to shore and shoots Gideon. Meanwhile, Miranda falls in love with a Union soldier, Capt. Frederick Allen (Eddie Mills), and they warn General Grant's troops about a trap set for them.
