A brilliant anthropology professor, Ethan Powell (Anthony Hopkins), spent two years in the jungles of Rwanda studying, and ultimately befriending, the mountain gorillas. But his odyssey ended when Powell killed several Africans and was sent to prison in the U.S. He now resides in the psycho ward where Theo Caulder (Cuba Gooding Jr.) eagerly takes on Powell's case and in the process of therapy learns more than a few things about himself as well.
