  Glen (Stephen Dorff) and his sister, Al (Christa Denton), are allowed to stay home for the first time when their parents leave for the weekend. Bored, Glen and friend Terry (Louis Tripp) decide to explore the large hole left when a tree was uprooted. It appears that the hole is actually a gate to Hell from which little demons come to the surface and create havoc as they prepare for the arrival of the Demon Lord. Likeable kids and good special effects. There is a sequel: "The Gate II: Trespassers."

  This made-for-TV movie is based on Hungarian Dr. Gisella Perl's (Christine Lahti) memoirs and is told in flashback as she endures intense interrogation by U.S. officials when she attempts to gain U.S. citizenship in 1946. She lost her entire family at the Auschwitz death camp and had come to the U.S. to begin life anew. The interrogation centered around her work as a gynecologist who performed morally questionable abortions at Auschwitz in an effort to save pregnant women from the gas chambers.

Director Robert Greenwald utilizes a series of flashbacks mainly narrated by Hoffman's widow, Anita (Janeane Garofalo), and attorney Gerry Lefcourt (Kevin Pollak).
