Later, in the 1930s, gangster Paolo Maltese (George C. Scott) buys the Rolls and tours Italy with hat-check girl Mae Jenkins (Shirley MacLaine). Like her predecessor, Mae also tries out the back seat–she finds "love" with a photographer (Alain Delon) while Paolo is in the U.S. on business. By World War II, socialite Gerda Millett (Ingrid Bergman) owns the car and fights the Nazis by smuggling Davich (Omar Sharif) across the border. In the process, this couple also finds pleasures in the back seat of the Rolls-Royce Phantom II.
