The Princess of Sparta (Mira Sorvino) sits on the throne her father usurped. She falls in love with the rightful heir (Jay Rodan) and determines to marry him, give him back the throne, and live happily ever after. But a problem exists. He has been raised by an enlightened couple–the philosopher, Hermocrates (Ben Kinglsey), and his sister, Dontine (Fiona Shaw)–who have taught him enlightenment principles and to detest the princess because of what she represents.
