Their cramped lifestyle leads Nick to buy a fixer-upper home in the suburbs. It turns out that real-estate agent Chuck Mitchell (John C. McGinley) has conned Nick into buying a house loaded with disasters waiting to happen. Some of the problems include a leaky roof, termites, dry rot, and clogged pipes–and it doesn't take long for Nick to realize that Chuck is the only available contractor, which leaves Nick completely at Chuck's mercy.

Among the group of hostages are choirmaster Rickey (Katt Williams), Sister Doris (Loretta Devine), and Pastor Arthur Mitchell (Chi McBride). This film does manage to present some good humor from the lives of those in the dreary world of Los Angeles' not-so-successful residents as Craig and Smokey encounter a variety of misfits while hanging out on Craig's front stoop.
