Later, when the father (Donald Crisp) of Beatrix (Lana Turner) gives permission for Dr. Jekyll to marry her, Dr. Jekyll decides that he must tell them about his evil side of Mr. Hyde. But, his decision may be too late when he discovers that Mr. Hyde is taking over his personality.

  In a well-known screen adaptation of this fantasy, Warner Brothers' big-name stars showed up for very good performances. James Cagney as Bottom and the music of Mendelssohn are especially good. This was the film debut of Olivia de Havilland in her role as Hermia. Mohr's Oscar was the only write-in ever. An Oscar was also awarded for Best Film Editing, and a nomination was received for Best Picture.

Few survive the trip, but at the end, Verne believes that Cambreau is God, and he repents. Now, Verne returns to serve out the rest of his sentence, and Julie agrees to be there for him when he is released.
