In this remake of "Ruggles of Red Gap," slapstick reigns as Bob Hope and Lucille Ball cavort in this story about early days in New Mexico. American actor Arthur Tyler (Hope) pretends to be a British butler and is hired by social climbing Agatha Floud (Ball) and her mother Effie (Lea Penman). They bring Arthur back to their ranch in New Mexico where the townsfolk believe that Arthur represents nobility, and he reaches celebrity status. He even keeps up the facade when President Teddy Roosevelt (John Alexander) arrives, and the citizens hope to achieve statehood for New Mexico.
