  Melody Jones (Gary Cooper) and his sidekick George Fury (William Demarest) ride into the town of Payneville where Melody is mistaken for highway robber Monte Jarrad (Dan Duryea). A gunman shoots at Melody, but Monte Jarrad's girlfriend Cherry de Longpre (Loretta Young) saves Melody and takes him home to her ranch. Melody falls in love with Cherry, and, as a result, he is chased not only by the law but also by Jarrad.

  Gunfighter Colt Ferron (Bob Steele) kills his father's murderers and joins Wolf Whitson's (Ted Adams) gang of outlaws. Two years later, Wolf ends his life as a gang leader by turning himself in and giving Colt his ranch. All goes well, until the old gang members appear on the scene, now led by Snake Bralt (Lew Meehan). Colt goes to Governor Gray (A.C. Henderson) and tells him that if he will release Wolf from prison, the two of them can bring in the gang. Now, it is up to the governor to make a big decision.

They want to charge the neighboring ranchers exorbitant prices to ship their horses and cattle as the means of forcing them out of the cattle business. Kenyon comes up with a plan to stop Spencer and Greenway, but will it work?

So the small budget was even smaller for this film, and the last reel was completely lifted from a previous film.

  Ed Tasker (Frank M. Thomas) murders Roy Rogers Sr. (Lane Chandler), kidnaps his son Tim (Buz Buckley), and raises him as his nephew Jerry. Fifteen years later, Tim's long-lost brother Roy (Roy Rogers) returns to the family's ranch. Tasker is still in the area, controls the water supply, and charges the ranchers a fee for the water. Tim (now played by Don "Red" Barry) kills a farmer after Tasker orders him to do so. Now, Roy, not knowing that it is his brother who is Tasker's "nephew," organizes the ranchers into a vigilante group, and they set out to put an end to Tasker and his criminal activities.
