Aging and down-on-his-luck poet Charles Serking (Ben Gazzara) lives in Los Angeles–he calls the city "Lost Angels"–and spends most of his time participating in drunken affairs with low-life women living on the fringe, which is a world that seems to fit Serking to a tee. While sitting in a bar, Charles meets self-mutilating prostitute Cass (Ornella Muti) and believes that he has finally found the love of his life. But has he?
